Phnom Penh (FN), July 13 - Renowned Cambodian investor Neak Okhna Ly Yong Phat has partnered with Bangkok Airway to invest USD 40 million to renovate former Koh Kong airport in the city, starting in 2020, according to a senior official of the State Secretariat for Civil Aviation on Friday.

“The project is currently in the process of studying on environmental, social, and technical impacts. The renovation aims to attract more investment to Koh Kong province," said Sinn Chanserey Vutha, spokesman of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

He said that the renovation might take three to five years to complete.

Chanserey Vutha also informed that another new airport in Koh Kong, invested by Union Development Group, with USD 350 million investment is expected to complete by 2020 and scheduled to operate in 2021.

The Royal Government of Cambodia planned to develop and upgrade six airports, including one new airport in Phnom Penh, two in Koh Kong, one new airport Siem Reap, one in Banteay Meanchey, and another one in the northeastern of Cambodia, which might be Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, or Ratanakiri, according to the spokesman.
