Kampong Thom (FN), March 19 - One among the five Cambodian forest rangers on duty was seriously wounded by a logger, according to Neth Pheaktra, spokesman of the Ministry of Environment, on Tuesday.

The accident took place in Anten biodiversity protection area in Kompong Thom province.

The victim, Chork Socheat, 40, was cut by a knife five times on the head, neck, and wrist, while he tipped his foot trying to reach the suspect.

The victim, seriously injured, was sent to Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh shortly.

Neth Pheaktra said authority already filed complaint to the court.

Socheat became the second ranger to be attacked by criminal in forests.

Cheng Chanthy, 37, an environmental ranger, was shot by an AK-47 assault rifle by poachers at the Srepok Wildlife Sanctuary in late January 2019.
