Phnom Penh (FN), March 18 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has repeatedly appealed to all citizens to be patient about the issue of power cut and water crisis in some areas in Phnom Penh and provinces, addressing at the graduation ceremony of Institute of New Khmer Generation at National Institute of Education on Monday.

He also urged people to temporarily use private electric generators if ones could afford.

The Premier explained that the outage was caused by an extreme heat and lacks of rain that halt the process of hydropower.

“Cambodia lacks of 400 megawatts electricity supply, but it does not affect the production chain at the factories. Cambodia still has more than 1,000 megawatts in hand,” the Premier reassured.

In response to the issue, the Royal Government of Cambodia is negotiating with Turkey for electric generator ship. The government also requested power supply from Vietnam and Thailand, but the two also face electricity shortage.

"We request to Vietnam to support more than 200 megawatts, but the Vietnamese are facing a similar problem. Like in Hanoi and some areas, they use coal. We ask Thailand, but Thailand has the same problem. We ask Laos, but Laos needs to build more networks", the premier.

According to Prime Minister, investing on electricity is difficult compared to investing on infrastructure. One can not buy partial electric power production; it must be purchased in accordance with the agreements; it would be a waste if we could not maximize the usage of generated electricity.

Prime Minister also appealed to use water effectively.
