Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 29 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted that Cambodia shall have peace and only one military control like nowadays to become a high-income country in 2050, addressing at the inauguration of Win-win Memorial on Saturday.

“As I do not hope to live until 2050, I still envision Cambodia to become a high-income country in 2050. Remember that to attain that goal, it requires peace and only one military control like today,” the Premier stated.

Prime Minister highlighted that peace is difficult to achieve, however, invaluable. Peace allows Cambodia to change from zero trade worth to US$25,000 million per annum, of which Cambodia exports US$12,000 million worth annually; change Cambodia from welcoming zero tourists to six million per annum; change from US$200 GDP per capita to approximately US$1,600 per capita.

According to the Strongman of Cambodia, after the fall of Khmer Rouge regime on 7 January 1979, Cambodia had four military factions, including Khmer Rouge forces; Khmer People's National Liberation Front, a conservative group headed by Son Sann; a royalist faction led by Prince Norodom Sihanouk, Cambodia's former head of state; and the Phnom Penh Government, headed by the Cambodian People’s Party.

After 1993, Cambodia still had two factions, the government, and the Khmer Rouge. It was after 1998 that Cambodia united and has only one military control ever since that allows the kingdom to prosper.

“Cambodia has united from the many factions to two and to one like today. I hope this glory continues upon this sorrowful kingdom,” Prime Minister stated.
