HÀ NỘI, May 08 (VNS)-- Việt Nam on Sunday confirmed 2,269 new COVID-19 infections, the second time in the past five days the caseload has dropped below 3,000.

Of the new infections, 2,268 cases are locally transmitted in 51 provinces and cities and just one is imported.

Sunday’s caseload is more than 1,000 infections fewer than Saturday and brought the country's total to 10,676,184.

Hà Nội saw the highest daily increase with 338 new infections.

Other new cases were reported in Nghệ An (140), Tuyên Quang (135), Phú Thọ (129), Quảng Ninh (120), Yên Bái (101), Quảng Bình (97), Bắc Ninh (92), Bắc Giang (82), Vĩnh Phúc (78), Lào Cai (69), Thái Bình (65), Bắc Kạn (61), Gia Lai (55), Thái Nguyên (50), Lâm Đồng (41), Hà Nam (40), Ninh Bình (37), Nam Định (35), Lạng Sơn (33), Hải Phòng (30), TP. Hồ Chí Minh (30), Hà Tĩnh (30), Hải Dương (29), Bình Phước (28), Sơn La (27), Hưng Yên (27), Hà Giang (26), Hòa Bình (25), Thanh Hóa (21), Cao Bằng (19), Đắk Nông (19), Lai Châu (17), Quảng Trị (16), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (15), Bình Định (13), Tây Ninh (12), Quảng Nam (10), Bình Dương (10), Đà Nẵng (10), Vĩnh Long (9), Điện Biên (9), Phú Yên (8 ), Khánh Hòa (6), Đồng Tháp (6), Cà Mau (6), Bình Thuận (5), Đồng Nai (2), Bến Tre (2), Kiên Giang (2), and Hậu Giang (1).

The seven-day rolling average of new cases currently stands at 3,237.

A total of 2,066 COVID-19 patients were given all-clear on Sunday taking the total number of recoveries to 9,320,591.

There are currently 473 patients needing oxygen support, nine on invasive ventilation and two on life support.

One COVID-related death was reported on Saturday. The total number of fatalities now stands at 43,056, just 0.4 per cent of total infections.

Nearly 215.69 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far, with 17.38 million given to children aged 12-17 years, and more than 1.82 million to those aged 5-11.
