HANOI, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's total confirmed COVID-19 cases surpassed 10 million cases on Thursday to reach 10,070,692, with 42,733 deaths, according to its Ministry of Health.

The country logged 45,886 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, down 3,238 cases from Wednesday.

The new infections, logged in 63 localities nationwide, included 45,884 domestically transmitted and two imported.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the hotspot with 3,635 new cases on Thursday, followed by the northern Bac Giang province with 2,267 and the northern Phu Tho province with 2,174.

On the same day, the health authorities also documented 44,342 COVID-19 cases detected earlier in two localities of Gia Lai province and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.

Nationwide, 8,395,066 patients, or 83 percent of the total tally, have recovered.

Nearly 207.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including 190.2 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of Thursday, it has registered over 10 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in April 2021, said the health ministry.
