KABUL, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Security authorities in Afghanistan have arrested 250 militants affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) terror group over the past one month, local media reported Thursday.

"A total of 250 individuals affiliated with the IS, many of whom fled prisons, have been arrested over the past one month," Tolo News television channel quoted the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid as saying.

Some of the arrested militants had plans to carry out terrorist attacks such as bomb blasts, which were thwarted during the period, Mujahid said, according to the media outlet.

The IS group has claimed responsibility for targeting the Shiite Muslims mosques in Kunduz and Kandahar.
