ISLAMABAD, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Thursday suspended its flight operations to Afghan capital of Kabul over security concerns, said a PIA official.

The airlines' operations are being halted owing to security reasons and will remain suspended until further notice, Spokesman for the PIA Abdullah Hafeez Khan told Xinhua.

He said that despite unfavorable circumstances in Afghanistan, the PIA chartered flights were being operated in and out of Kabul solely on humanitarian grounds, adding that the PIA continued its operations when other airlines were reluctant to continue their operations considering the country a "war zone region".

Pakistan's national flag carrier has so far evacuated over 3,000 passengers in the wake of rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan, according to PIA officials.

The evacuees also included officials of the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and journalists.
