BEIJING, Aug. 21 (CGTN) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday said that the future of Afghanistan should be decided by the Afghan people, and all parties should respect their choice, adding that it is necessary for the international community to play its due role.

Wang made his remarks during a phone conversation with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, according to a Chinese foreign ministry release. The two ministers mainly exchanged their views on the situation in Afghanistan.

Wang said that a new page has been opened in the history of Afghanistan, and history will eventually draw a just conclusion about what happened in the past, adding that forcible imposition of certain values on other nations and civilizations is difficult to achieve, as had been proved in the past and will remain the case in the future.

He said the international community is concerned about the future direction of Afghanistan, adding that the consensus of all parties is to build an open and inclusive political system in Afghanistan, pursue moderate and steady domestic and foreign policies, and completely cut off ties with all terrorist organizations.
