HANOI, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 9,340 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Monday, including 9,323 locally transmitted and 17 imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally to 219,745, with 3,757 deaths, the ministry said.

Among the community cases, 3,991 were reported in the southern epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 2,887 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 538 in the southern Dong Nai province.

As many as 75,920 patients have so far recovered, up 4,423 from Sunday, while 9.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Monday, Vietnam has registered a total of 217,383 domestically transmitted cases, including 215,813 detected since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said.
