HANOI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported a new high of 9,690 COVID-19 infections on Sunday, including 9,684 locally transmitted and six imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally to 210,405, with 3,397 deaths, the ministry said.

Among the community cases, 3,898 were reported in the southern Ho Chi Minh City, a provincial daily new high of 3,210 cases were reported in the southern Binh Duong province, and 724 were reported in the southern Long An province.

As many as 71,497 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 4,860 from Saturday, while nearly 8.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Sunday, Vietnam has registered a total of 208,060 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 206,490 detected since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said.
