MANILA, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines confirmed on Saturday that an additional COVID-19 infection has been detected, bringing the total number of cases in the country to six.

Health Secretary of the Philippines Francisco Duque told reporters that the latest case is the wife of the fifth case, a 62-year-old Filipino male who tested positive for COVID-19 previously.

Duque said the sixth case, a 59-year-old woman, is in stable condition.

The health chief also confirmed that the fifth case of COVID-19 is the first case of local transmission in the country, as the patient has no travel history abroad.

As of now, one death has been reported in the Philippines due to COVID-19.
