TOKYO, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday picked a new Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) executive lineup maintaining the backbone at LDP headquarters with the selection of key party influencers.

The new lineup will see Toshihiro Nikai retained as Secretary-General and Fumio Kishida kept on as the party's Policy Research Council chief.

Shunichi Suzuki, meanwhile, will be reassigned as the chairperson of the LDP's decision-making General Council.

Hakubun Shimomura, meanwhile, will serve as chairperson of the LDP's Election Strategy Committee.

Later in the day, Abe will reshuffle his Cabinet in a bid to garner more public support and will replace 17 of his 19 ministers in the first Cabinet shakeup since October and after the LDP and its junior coalition partner the Komeito party secured a victory in the upper house election in the summer.

The prime minister's revamped Cabinet will see the services retained of his closest allies holding similar political views in key ministerial positions.

The prime minister will hold a news conference on Wednesday evening to explain the reasons for the selection of his revamped Cabinet and executive lineup.
