SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) twice fired unidentified projectiles into the eastern waters on Saturday, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The projectiles were launched from the town of Sondok in DPRK's eastern province of South Hamgyong early in the morning, the Yonhap News Agency quoted the JCS as saying.

"Our military is monitoring the situation in case of additional launches and maintaining a readiness posture," the JCS added.

Right after the DPRK's test-firings, the top national security adviser for South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a National Security Council meeting.
