MOSCOW, June 6 (CGTN) -- China and Russia agreed on Wednesday to upgrade their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.

The decision was made at a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

President Xi is now on a three-day state visit to Russia. He is expected to fly to St. Petersburg on Friday, where he's set to attend the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday. The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Russia.
