MINSK, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Belarus has no plan to join the European Union (EU), the country's Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kravchenko said on Thursday.

The EU should consider Belarus as a neighbor, not as an accession country, because Belarus has no such desire yet, the deputy minister told local media.

The diplomat said that Belarus sees relations with the EU as relations of neighbors who help each other.

Belarus is counting on the successful development of relations with the EU since the two sides have common interests, Kravchenko added.

With regard to Belarus' membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kravchenko said that this union is similar to the EU, but it has no political aspect. He is convinced that the EAEU will develop in the interests of its members.
