TOKYO, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A magnitude-6.2 earthquake hit off southeast coast of Japan's Hokkaido Prefecture on Saturday, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.

The temblor occurred at about 12:22 local time(0322 GMT), with its epicenter at a latitude of 42.1 degrees north and a longitude of 146.8 degrees east, and at depth of 10 km.

The quake logged four in some parts of Hokkaido Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at seven.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
