Phnom Penh (FN), June 29 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Friday that the campaign to prevent the use of plastics in Cambodia has yet successful, thus, requires citizen’s participations to reduce plastic consumption, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of Chom Chao Roundabout Sky Bridge.

The premier said that only the Royal Palace and the Independence Monument are above sea level, so Phnom Penh is easy to get flooded.

The campaign to prevent the use of the plastics is necessary to prevent plastic from flowing into the sewage system.

“We, together, must solve this plastic problem. Our people have settled in some areas nearby the drainage,” stated the premier.

Prime Minister Hun Sen told the affected citizens not to worry about the settlement nearby the drainage, as the Royal Government set a policy to reduce the size of drainage but make them deeper so that our people have legal land to settle.

"This solution is a win-win policy. If we move all the people out of the areas, where do we locate them? With this policy, we will also have more arable land for cultivation," he added.
