Phnom Penh (FN), June 26 - The National Election Committee (NEC) issued a statement on Tuesday in response to the UK-based Liberal International, which supported the petition of the Cambodia National Rescue Movement (CNRM) led by former opposition leader Sam Rainsy.

Rainsy's petition demanded some conditions that affected the roles and duties of the NEC, according to the statement.

NEC stated that the electoral process is determined by laws. No one or no countries could block the process of the six mandate National Assembly election to be held on 29 July 2018 in accordance to the principle of multi-party liberal democracy.

NEC added that no laws stipulate that for election to be fair, there has to be a presence of former Cambodia National Rescue Party.

NEC requests Liberal International to study deeply the Cambodian constitution and law on election.
