Phnom Penh (FN), June 1 - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said in a congratulation letter for International Children’s Day that children are potential human resources for the nation’s future development.

“June 1, 2018” is the 69th anniversary of International Children's Day under the theme "Together Protecting Children for Family and Society Development".

Prime Minister said that the theme has urged the government to effectively implement the four major children's rights, including the right to survival through food security, nutrition and health; the right to protection from exploitation and abuse; the right to basic education; and the right to equality within the family through education and child rights training.

The premier also said that provision of child protection and development is a crucial task requiring multi-sectoral implementation, and priority activities to undertake, including developing legal framework, revising, monitoring, evaluating mechanisms, capacity development, strengthening of educational services, promoting children’s health and care, and providing timely basic education to children.

He also stressed that the Royal Government has now provided additional support to health, education, social and other fields related to human resource development, with particular emphasis on child welfare development aimed at achieving the 2015-2030 sustainable development goals.

"Investing in children is a priority as it will create a skilled and potential human resource in the future to sustain economic growth and improve the welfare of the people”, he added.

In order to ensure that children are protected and developed, the premier has recommended seven actions for all stakeholders, including the implementation of the Convention on Child’s Rights, protection of child from any violences, raising awareness and disseminating the prevention of the use of child’s labor, promoting child’s access to education, identifying child abuse, improving the welfare of children in Cambodia, and promoting child’s services.
