Phnom Penh (FN), April 18 – Minister of Environment Say Sam Al, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior Sak Setha and Director General of the Forestry Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Chheng Kim Sun joined the U.S. Ambassador William A. Heidt, today April 18, in a chopper-flight over the protected forests of Prey Lang, a forest that is geographically shared by five provinces in the northern part of the country.
According to an announcement by the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, The purpose of the flight is to raise awareness about deforestation and increase government support for the protection of forests. Bringing together the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Interior helps demonstrate inter-ministerial cooperation and support for the protection of the Prey Lang forest.
Upon landing, the officials are scheduled to hold a brief press conference.
Just recently, Prime Minister Hun Sen has officially announced that Prey Lang as well as those forests along the western cardamom mountains to the south-west of Cambodia are enlisted as protected forests.
