Phnom Penh (FN), March 22 - Heng Sour, the spokesman for the Ministry of Labour, said that Sam Rainsy, former opposition leader and the founder of Cambodia National Rescue Movement (CNRM), was addicted and attracted to only the negative news about Cambodia.

The reaction came after Sam Rainsy posted an except on his Facebook on Wednesday regarding the warning of international buyers to Prime Minister Hun Sen’s repressive policies.

“We write to express our growing concern over recent developments that not only seem to undermine progress towards improving worker rights, but also appear to have created an environment that has weakened protection of human rights. As such, we also urge your government to guarantee respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms and to provide full protection of all human rights defenders in your country. Political freedoms, rule of law, and enforcement of international civil and labor rights are essential for international trade and responsible business,” according to the excerpts from a 19 March 2018 letter from international garment buyers to Hun Sen.

“Conclusion for the Cambodian people: Keep Hun Sen, have no freedom and no jobs, or get rid of Hun Sen, and have freedom and jobs in abundance,” Rainsy wrote.

In response, the spokesman reacted shortly to Rainy’s Facebook post, saying that this is not the first time that Cambodia has received letters from our foreign friends, and so far, our fellow partners have always been pleased and accepted the response of the Royal Government of Cambodia and relevant stakeholders.

“We already discussed and tried to tackle those four issues addressing to the government," the spokseman said adding that "We are happy to provide the latest facts from Cambodia to our partners, and we believe that they will admire Cambodia as a nation with opened rules and freedom to citizens to form unions, associations, and expression compared to other countries in the region".
