Phnom Penh (FN), March 19 – The fire to Chbar Ampov Market on Thursday night damaged 588 stalls among 1,447 stores, causing about $4 million loss, Kuoch Chamnan, Chief of the Market Committee, said on Monday.

After the fire, vendors requested Phnom Penh Capital Hall, especially Prime Minister Hun Sen, to speed up the construction of the roof.

Kuoch Chamnan said that Phnom Penh authority led by Theng Sothol, Deputy Governor in charge of the market, under the command of Khoung Sreng, Phnom Penh Governor, is cleaning up debris from the burning area for the repairs since late Sunday.

The authorities are now building a fence to protect the safety of the repairs, and allowing vendors, whose stalls are not destroyed, to operate as usual, according to Cheng Monyra, Governor of Chbar Ampov District.

The fire, caused by electric wire, started from the east of the market at 11:30 pm on March 15, 2018, according to Police of Chbar Ampov District II.
