Phnom Penh (FN), March 19 – H.E Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, said on Monday that there are currently more than 14,000 public and private schools, including 4,632 kindergarten, 7,621 primary schools, 1,330 secondary schools, 633 high schools and 2,455 kindergarten communities, with 67,393 children registered, of which 51.33% are girls.

His statement was made at the opening ceremony of the Annual Meeting of General Education, presided over by Bin Chhin, Acting Minister in charge of the Council of Ministers, and attended by leaders of the Ministry of Education at all levels at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, held from March 19 to 21, 2018.

"By January 2018, a total of 4,244 buildings, equivalent to 25,628 rooms, were built as gifts from Prime Minister Hun Sen and Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen”, he added.

Five-year-old children attending kindergarten education has increased to 68.5%, of which 69.7% is girls. The rate of public and private primary education is 97.8%, according to the minister.

The total number of students in public and private schools from primary to secondary education was over 3 million students, of which 49.37% are female. There are 121 higher education institutions located in the 20 provinces, of which 44 is public, and 73 is private.

Meanwhile, there are 119,368 educational employees in Cambodia, of which 45.50% are female.
