Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 27 – Minister of Environment Say Sam Al stated that the establishment of Koh Rong National Park is a part of local, regional, and international conservation.

The minister’s statement was made in an interview with Apsara television station on Monday at the Ministry of Environment.
"Koh Rong has a great biodiversity value that does not exist elsewhere”, minister said.

He continued that fish migrated from the Gulf of Thailand to Koh Rong, Cambodia, so the site becomes an animal sanctuary providing fishery resources to fishermen. At the same time, Koh Rong has beautiful coral reefs that Cambodia needs to preserve to attract visitors.

Prime Minister Hun Sen, on Feb. 8, 2018, issued a sub decree to establish Koh Rong National Park, located in Sihanoukville and Koh Kong Province.

Koh Rong National Park includes Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Kon, Koh Toch and a few more islands with a total area of 52,448 hectares, including 5,311 hectares of land and 47,137 hectares of sea.
