Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 22 - During the 6th Meeting of Joint Trade Committee Between Cambodia and Thailand (6th JTC) held in Phnom Penh on Thursday, Cambodia-Thai vowed to increase bilateral trade volume to $15 billion by 2020.

The meeting was chaired by Pan Sorasak, Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce and Sontirat Sontijirawong, Minister of Commerce of Thailand attended by 100 senior officials and private sector representatives of the two countries.

The meeting aimed to review the progress of the results 5th JTC in Bangkok, Thailand in 2015, and exchange views on new trade challenges.

Cambodia has requested the Thai side to extend the period of importing corn from Cambodia from March to October, as today the period lasts only five months from March to August.

In addition, the two sides agreed to establish a working group to convene their first meeting in the next three months after the 6th JTC meeting.

The two sides also discussed on trade and investment cooperation, and opening border gates.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers signed two documents: (1) Strategic Growth of Economic Cooperation of Bordering Provinces and (2) Memorandum of Cooperation on trade promotion.

In addition, the Ministers appreciated the success of 6th JTC and committed to supporting and promoting cooperation mechanisms to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
