HOUSTON, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- An American man was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison without parole for shooting his Lebanese neighbor in a hate crime in 2016.

Stanley Majors, 63, was convicted of gunning down and killing 37-year-old Khalid Jabara outside his Tulsa home in Oklahoma in August 2016.

Judge Sharon Holmes adopted the jury's recommendations and imposed sentences of life without parole plus 11 years on related counts. These are possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, threatening a violent act, and malicious intimidation and harassment.

These will be served consecutively.

The family of the victim did not attend the sentencing hearing on Tuesday.

Assistant District Attorney Julie Doss said it was understandable that the Jabara family did not to want to appear in court for Majors' sentencing. They have said they want to move on with their life and "not give Stanley Majors one ounce of power over them any longer."
