Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 20 - The United Nations (UN) highly commended the reforms that the Royal Government of Cambodia has made over time, according to Eang Sophalleth, personal secretary to the Prime Minister.

Claire Van der Vaeren, UN Representative in Cambodia, led a delegation to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace on Tuesday morning.

The whole meeting discussed three themes, including Sustainable Development Goals, youth, training and employment, and social supports.

Eang Sophalleth said that Claire Van der Vaeren expressed her deepest gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued contribution to peacekeeping under the UN framework and high commends toward Cambodia’s successful implementations of Cambodia on United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

She expressed her support for Cambodia in promoting development in Cambodia and pledged to support and strengthen UN partnership with Cambodia.

Claire Van der Vaeren informed the United Nations’ contributions in 2017 in the fields of human resource development, the environment and agriculture, and mine clearance.

Regarding social support, the United Nations has partnered with Cambodia on health education, especially malaria issues and eradication of HIV/AIDS; contributed to good governance and democracy and assisted indigenous people by providing land tenure.

The premier expressed his appreciation toward the efforts and contributions of the United Nations in 2017 as informed by Claire Van der Vaeren.
