Kampong Thom (FN), Feb. 19 - During the four-day festival of Chinese New Year from February 15 to 18, 2018, Kampong Thom province welcomed 14,410 tourists, an increase of 250% compared to the same period in 2017, according to the report of the Ministry of Tourism on Monday.

One of the prime tourist sites in Kompong Thom is Sambo Prei Kuk, a cultural and historical site located in Sambo village, in Kompong Thom province, about 200 kilometers northeast of Phnom Penh.

The number of tourists substantially increased after Sambo Prei Kuk Resort was enlisted as the third intangible World Heritage by UNESCO on July 8, 2017 at the World Heritage Committee's 41st Summit in Krakow, Poland with the participation of 193 member countries.

The previous two cultural and intangible temples of Angkor Wat and Temple of Preah Vihear were listed as World Heritage sites in 1992 and 2008 respectively.

The report added that for this 2018 Chinese-Vietnamese New Year, Cambodia received more than 864,770 visitors, an increase of 54%, in which 744,140 are national tourists, and 105,370 international visitors.
