Siem Reap (FN), Jan. 29 - Siem Reap Governor Khim Bunsong held a discussion on Sunday with Kazuyuki Nakane, Vice Foreign Minister of Japan, and delegates visiting Siem Reap during the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Japan-Cambodia friendship and establishment of the Japanese consulates in Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey and Kampong Thom.

During the discussion, the provincial governor requested Japan's Vice Foreign Minister to launch direct flights from Japan to Siem Reap to increase the number of tourists.

According to the Siem Reap governor, Siem Reap received a total of 5.5 million tourists in 2017, an increase of 9.3%, compared to 2016 which was only 5 million.

Among those, 457, 282 are international tourists, an increase of 11.42% and 3,086,152 are national tourists, an increase of 8.77% compared to 2016. Over 13,000 Japanese tourists visited Siem Reap in 2017, ranking the fifth international visitor.
