Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 19 – The three-day General Assembly of the Central Committee of Cambodian People's Party (CPP), the ruling party in Cambodia, officially kicked off on Friday Jan. 19 and will last until Sunday Jan. 21, 2018.

Sok Eysan, Spokesman CPP, told on Thursday that the General Assembly of the Central Committee, to be chaired by Prime Minister Hun Sen, will be attended by more than 2,000 leaders.

However, Sok Eysan did not present the agenda for the three-day event.

2018 is the last year of CPP’s fifth mandate, and the year that Cambodia will host a national election, so the General Assembly of the Central Committee will present the important agenda in electoral preparation.

PM Hun Sen will talk about party's political framework from 2018 to 2023 for the new upcoming national election, which will be held on July 29, 2018.

CPP is a political party with strong leadership structure and has led Cambodia since the country was liberated from the Khmer Rouge regime on January 7, 1979.

CPP, originally known as the Khmer People's Revolutionary Party, was born on June 28, 1951, started with Cambodian people's movement against colonialism for national independence.

CPP has stated that since the day of birth, CPP has always adhered to its purpose and ideals, standing with the people and connecting with the people to overcome all the obstacles, and sacrificing lives for independence, freedom, democracy, neutrality and social progress.

When Cambodia plunged into genocide regime from April 1975, CPP was the only political force that has stood up and gathered all patriotic forces across the country to overthrow the regime.
