Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 18 – Sieng Sok, Prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, decided to charge Sam Rainsy, former president of the dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party, of inciting army to rebel the legitimate government.

The decision was made on Thursday. The charge was based on Article 471 and Article 472 of the Penal Code and is subjected to two to five year’s imprisonment and a fine of $1,000 to $2,500.

Sam Rainsy wrote on his Facebook on Dec. 5, 2017 urging the RCAF to turn against the government.

This act was considered as offending the forces and invoked instability in the country, according to the complaint, filed by Vong Pheakdey, RCAF’s lawyer.

The case was submitted to investigating judge to further proceed in accordance to the prcoedure, while the defendant is on bail.
