Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 18 - Due to the annual growth of ageing people in Japan that requires more than 500,000 elderly caretakers, a Japanese firm has been setting up an institute to train Cambodian human resources on elderly care in Cambodia with a budget of approximately $3 million.

The statement was made during a meeting between Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training and Yoshio Kondo, Director of Procast (CAMBODIA) Co., Ltd. on Thursday morning, at the Ministry of Labor.

Ith Sam Heng said that Procast is a training company that send Cambodian trainees to work in Japan and this is the first company interested in the elderly care in Cambodia.

"He has now set up an institute called Elderly Care Training Institute and this institute is being constructed with facilities, equipment and specialist teachers from all over Japan”, stated the minister.

The minister added that the maintenance of the elder people in the country is needed, as their families and children are busy with their work due to the growing economy and welfare in accordance with the policies of the government led by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

The company will launch its operations from April 2018 upon completion, where the first course will welcome the first 180 participants.

Yoshio Kondo said that after graduating from the university, students can easily apply to work in Japan on healthcare professionals.

He added that the new institute has a college for elderly people including Psychology, Professional Ethics, Japanese Literature, and Information Technology (IT) as well as some of the necessary skills.
