Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 5 - The United States granted $320,000 to Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) for ERW clearance in five provinces located in the eastern part of Cambodia, according to Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC.

The grant was provided through Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) organization in the region, signed on January 4, 2018, to implement in five provinces including Kompong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kratie, Svay Rieng and Prey Veng.

Heng Ratana confirmed that “I’ve signed the cooperated agreement with the director of NPA in the region to receive $320,000 granted by the Department of State of the United States to support ERW clearance of Demining Unit 5 of CMAC”.

In 2017, the United States granted CMAC $2.1 million. CMAC cleared 65 square kilometers, found and destroyed more than 20,000 ammunitions, according to Heng.
