(Preah Vihear): In response to allegations by the Thai prime minister and defence minister that Cambodia is still purchasing electricity from six locations, Senate President Hun Sen asked where exactly these locations are.
Samdech Techo spoke on Friday (Jun. 27) during a meeting with members of the provincial, city, district, commune, and sangkat councils in Preah Vihear province.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that if any such locations do exist, the Thai side should clearly identify them today because Cambodia also wishes to know in order to terminate those supplies immediately. “But if you cannot provide such information and cannot confirm today, then you are not the kind of person who should be making such claims,” Samdech Techo mentioned.
“You accuse Cambodia of receiving false information, yet when we clarify the matter, you apologise to me. You are not qualified to be a prime minister. Even when your Ministry of Foreign Affairs insulted my country, you were unaware and later apologised to me over the phone. If you were preparing to cut us off, then we acted faster and cut you off first,” Samdech Techo underscored.
Cambodia has always aimed to maintain business agreements with Thailand, but when threats were made, Cambodia already had sufficient electricity and internet resources. Despite this, Cambodia still respected existing contracts. However, when warned, Cambodia had no choice but to unilaterally suspend those services and seek alternative internet supply sources. In Koh Kong province, Cambodia already had 50 megawatts of electricity, but due to business ties, it continued sourcing electricity from Thailand’s Trat province. Once threats emerged, Cambodia’s prime minister ordered an immediate suspension of that supply.
Samdech Techo continued, “Now I want to ask the Thai deputy prime minister and minister of defence, who stated yesterday that Cambodia is still purchasing electricity from six locations, please tell the people of Thailand and Cambodia where exactly these locations are.”
He further clarified that last night he instructed the minister of mines and energy to thoroughly inspect the matter, and it has since been confirmed that there are no remaining electricity supply points from Thailand. He then questioned whether the Thai minister of defence had the dignity to speak responsibly or whether he was simply uninformed and resorted to making false accusations against Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen noted that at currently, Cambodia is no longer using electricity or internet from Thailand. And if the Thai Minister of Defence insists there are six remaining supply locations, then please publicly clarify where they are today.
