NEW DELHI, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and nine others injured when a passenger train derailed in India's Uttar Pradesh state Friday morning, officials said.

"Some 13 coaches of Vasco Da Gama-Patna Express train went off the tracks near Manikpur railway station at 4:18 a.m. local time (2248 GMT)," a senior railway official said.

The injured have been admitted to a district hospital in Chitrakoot, where the condition of some are said to be serious.

The train was on its way to Patna, the capital of the eastern state of Bihar, from Vasco Da Gama in the western state of Goa.

"A probe has been ordered into the incident," the official said.
