Phnom Penh (FN), October 7 - Ith Sam Heng, minister of Labor and Vocational Training, paid a courtesy visit to U.S Ambassador to Cambodia William A. Heidt and E.U Ambassador to Cambodia, George Edgar together on Friday afternoon to discuss labor cooperation.

The two ambassadors supported wage increase to $170 by 2018. Both countries also encouraged Cambodia to continue to adopt a trilateral mechanism, social dialogue, respect for working conditions, respect for freedom of association, professional freedom and quick and transparent labor and industrial relations issues.

The U.S and the E.U will continue to open their markets to Cambodia and increase the purchase of goods from Cambodia.

Ith Sam Heng thanked the two countries that continue to improve and help Cambodia and to ensure that trade policy is effective.

On Thursday, the Labor Council Commission agreed to increase garment worker’s wage from $153 in 2017 to $165 by 2018. Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to add $5 more, which amounted to $170, an increase of $17 overall compared to 2017.
