MEXICO CITY, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed and eight injured in a shooting Tuesday night in a drug rehabilitation center in Mexico's northern state of Chihuahua, local police said.

A group of attackers entered the center "Uniting Families" and opened fire against the people inside, reports said.

It is estimated that about 25 people were staying in the center when the first responders arrived on scene to help the injured after the attack.

Over a dozen police vehicles have been deployed around the center and police officers were searching for the attackers in nearby areas.

The state of Chihuahua, which borders the United States, has seen some of the worst violence in Mexico's decade-long war on drugs.
