PHNOM PENH (FN), Feb. 8 — A total of 97 houses were completely destroyed at the very early of Feb. 8 by a fire that broke out at Chak Angrae Krom, about 7 km from Phnom Penh Downtown, as a result of firecrackers set off for celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, local authorities said.

Dy Rath Khemrun, Deputy Governor of Khan Meanchey, told the press that the fire was put out by around 4 am after intervention by the authorities using 25 firetrucks and 66 rounds.

No casualties have been reported and police have not yet been able to determine how much damage was caused by the fire.
