Phnom Penh (FN), August 30 - The Cambodia Daily, besides evading the tax for 10 years, alleged that the tax issue was politically motivated, according to The General Department of Taxation (GDT).

“The Cambodia Daily has responded twice but were unacceptable due to the lack evidences and supports. If The Cambodia Daily does not pay its taxes by September 4, 2017,  the GDT will issue an official letter confirming that Cambodia Daily is subject to tax liabilities and will begin to implement the foreclosure of the company," said Kong Vibol, Director General of GDT.

A letter issued by General Department of Taxation signed by Heng Narith on August 4, addressed to the Director of Enterprise, BERNARD KRISHER JIMUSHO Co., LTD. (Cambodia Daily) that the enterprise has been audited the accounting records from 2007 to 2016, owing the state approximately $6 million.

The Cambodia Daily is facing the prospect of being shut down and having all assets confiscated if the state fails to receive back taxes by September 4, 2017.
