Phnom Penh (FN), August 25 – Prime Minister Hun Sen encouraged Thailand to increase imports from Cambodia, as Cambodia's export to Thailand is five times smaller than Thailand’s exports.

The remark was made on Thursday afternoon during a meeting with General Anupong Paochinda, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, at Phnom Penh’s Peace Palace.

During the first half of 2017, the volume of Cambodia-Thailand trade has reached approximately $2.9 billion, an increase of 9% compared to the same period in 2016, which was only $2.6 billion, according to report from Thailand Embassy in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia exported goods and products to Thailand in a total of $453 million, a decrease of 20.40%, while Thailand’s export to Cambodia was worth of $2.5 billion, an increase of 18.11%.

The premier also asked Thailand to strengthen cooperation on hydropower development project in Koh Kong province to improve water management; and to solve disaster issue along border effectively.

General Anupong Paochinda has led Thai delegation to attend the 6th Cambodian-Thai Border Meeting on the Development of Provinces in Cambodia-Thai Border.

The meeting started on Thursday and ended on Friday. The two-day meeting touched on many topics including crime prevention, tourism promotion, illegal logging, border gate establishment and management, trade and investment, infrastructure, labor and agricultural cooperation.
