Phnom Penh (FN), August 1 - The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on Wednesday, with the Bangladeshi Government on the import of 1 million tons of rice for five years from 2017-2022.

“The MoU signed by Commerce Minister Pan Sorasak and Bangladeshi Minister of Food and Rural Affairs, Md.Qamrul Islam,” said Soeng Sophary, MoC spokesperson.

“The signing of the MoU with Bangladesh will further expand the rice market for Cambodia, which will help the private sector prepare to capture the new rice market to increase exports in line with the government's policies,” she added.

General Secretaryof the Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF), Moul Sarith, expressed his gratitude to the MoU.

“The rice market in Bangladesh is a good market because it is a natural disaster and food shortfall,” said Moul Sarith.

In the first six months of 2017, Cambodia exported nearly 300,000 tons of rice to international markets, including China, France, and Poland.
