Phnom Penh (FN), July 25 – Data released from the General Department of Controlled Commodity Inspection and Counterfeiting reports that 12,913 kilos of tainted goods confiscated from 921 markets nationwide were destroyed during the first half of 2017.

The report was made public during a Camcontrol review meeting, led by Minister of Commerce, Pan Sorasak, on Tuesday.

The information contained market surveys from across the country that are based on pesticide residue testing in food products along with laboratory analysis.

The report also included data regarding sanitary inspections, product display methods, monitored level of iodine contained in salt, valid expiration dates, and the authentication of product brands.

The minister has urged all police officers to cooperate with local authorities to prevent the importation of counterfeit goods and to incinerate them when discovered.

In August, Camcontrol will receive another mobile experimental vehicle which will be used to check gasoline at petrol stations.
