Phnom Penh (FN), June 13 – The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) donated a million dollars to Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital (KBCH) on Tuesday.

The donation ceremony was led by Pum Chantiny, secretary-general of CRC on behalf of the president of CRC, Bun Rany Hun Sen and Denis Laurent, KBCH’s deputy director and other participants from Ministry of Health.

Pum Chantiny said that CRC made the donation to ensure the hospital's ability to continue to care for children.

It is hoped that charities abroad and in neighboring countries continue to support the hospital as well.

She also wished Dr. Beat Richner, founder of KBCH, who is currently undergoing medical treatment in Switzerland, is soon recovered and able to resume his humanitarian missions in the country.

"Although Dr. Beat has taken a step back from actively seeing patients, he may continue to be counsel regarding health services.

This hospital has helped many children from throughout the country," said Pum.

KBCH is regarded as the “divine hospital” by most people, and has saved millions of Cambodian children lives.

In response, Dr. Denise Laurent expressed her sincere gratitude to Bun Rany Hun Sen for the funding which will protect, cure, and care for Cambodian children.
