Phnom Penh (FN), June 5 – The U.S. Embassy congratulated the millions of Cambodians who participated in Sunday's elections.

The Embassy also commended the Royal Government of Cambodia, the National Election Committee (NEC), election officials, and others for successfully preparing for and carry out the elections.

The Embassy released a statement Monday in which they stated:

“The Embassy had 40 election observer teams deployed throughout Cambodia.

They visited more than 300 locations in Phnom Penh and 13 provinces. In general, the polling stations were orderly and peaceful."

They have promised to continue to oversee the tabulation of ballots until the NEC announces the final results.

The NEC is fully expected to perform their duties with the fullest integrity and transparency.
Any concerns expressed by opposition parties or civil society organizations before and during the campaign will also be scrutinized.

The peaceful nature of Cambodia's election is an important milestone in the continued development of the nation's democracy.

The U.S. Embassy has asked the citizens of Cambodia, her political parties, and other institutions to accept the results of the election peacefully.
