Phnom Penh (FN), May 5 – Each year, the government of Japan awards scholarships to foreign students who wish to pursue their studies abroad.

Over the past 25 years, approximately 1,000 Cambodian students have received this scholarship and the opportunity to study in Japan.

The 2018 MEXT and ASJA Scholarships application details were announced on Thursday at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) in Phnom Penh, which was hosted by the Embassy of Japan and Japanese Association of Cambodia (JAC).

The Embassy is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2018 school year.

Applications may be found at and submitted to the Cambodian Ministry of Education’s Department of Scholarship.

President of JAC, Vuthy Moniroth, shared aspects of his education experience in Japan and offered advice for those applying for the  scholarship.

Over 1,200 students applied for the Japanese scholarship in 2017. Only 26 were awarded.
