Phnom Penh (FN), May 3 - Marie-Odile Emond, UNAIDS representative in Cambodia, admired and appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Center for HIV, Dermatology and STD, which has reduced the prevalence of HIV infection and providing medical treatment.

The statement was made when she paid a courtesy call to Dr Mam Bun Heng, Minister of Health.

“Cambodia has received international awards, recognizing the success on Millennium Development Goals ahead of time,” said Marie-Odile Emond.

“Condom use had made Cambodia a Champion in fighting against HIV in the world,” she added.

“What is also notable is that health officials had strengthening the capacity of implementing activities to prevent the spread of AIDS,” stated Marie-Odile Emond.

Mam Bun Heng expressed his profound gratitude to the support from UNAIDS and other non-governmental organizations.

“We need to continue to treat HIV patients with ARV drugs and promote health education among young people on preventing HIV infection, by the need to use condoms,” said Mam Bun Heng.

He regretted that the UNAIDS Representative complete her missions in Cambodia so soon, and he wished her a success for her new mission in the near future.
