Phnom Penh (FN), April 28 - Cambodia's debt is a complex issue, said Patrick Murphy, the Assistant Secretary Department of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and that he wants to see the problem solved through open discussion.

Patrick made his statement in a press conference on Friday, the last day of his visit to Cambodia.

"The debt issue is complex. It created tension between Cambodia and U.S," stated Patrick.

"Solving the issue requires negotiation and discussion. We want to see the problem solved, as it hinders Cambodia's cooperation with International Monetary Fund," he added.

Cambodia owed the U.S approximately $662 million.

The premier requested Trump Administration to eliminate this debt, as it is a dirty one that killed many of Cambodians.
