Phnom Penh (FN), April 4 – According to a report released by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) on Tuesday, Cambodia has approximately 20 million SIM card subscribers and more than 8 million internet users.

The report was released during the MPT's congress with the participation of Minister Tram Ivtek.

“By 2016, we had approximately 20 million mobile phone SIM card subscribers and 8,099,000 internet users,” quoted the minister.

“The telecommunications sector has grown substantially. To further develop, telecommunication operators are investing  in fiber optic infrastructure. So far,  29,800 kilometers, an equivalent to $143 million has been laid," said the minister.

“The expanded telecommunications across Cambodia connect with neighboring countries – Laos, Vietnam and Thailand,” he reiterated.

Telecommunication service providers operating in Cambodia include Smart, Metfone, Cooltel, qb and Seatel.
