Phnom Penh (FN), April 1 – Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) will hold a special meeting on Sunday to select party's heads in accordance to the political party's criteria deposited in the Ministry of Interior (MoI), according to CNRP's spokesman Yem Ponharith.

“Yesterday we received a letter attached with the newly amended CNRP's criteria from MoI and that tomorrow our standing committee will have a meeting to implement article 47 of the amendment,” said CNRP’s spokesman.

"CNRP will also discuss the needs to change party's slogan", he added.

On Friday, the ministry has recognized the amendment on article 45 and article 47 of the CNRP's criteria, which was requested by the CNRP's Extraordinary Congress on March 2, 2017.

MoI also asked CNRP to put effort in implementing its party's criteria.

On March 22, 2017, MoI announced the illegality of the CNRP's presidential election, as it violated its own political party's criteria.

The article 47 (old) of Criteria of Political Party stipulated that the the absence of former leader must be at least 18 months for CNRP to select a new president. The CRNP filled the positions in less than two months. Therefore, the elections of Kem Sokha as the new CNRP president and the other three vice presidents were illegal.

The article 47 (old) added that if the absence of the party's leader is less than 18 months, the Vice President must become acting president of the party and that the party must appoint another Vice President within 30 days to assist the acting president.
